Galway City Habitat Inventory

A new report which highlights rare natural habitats in Galway City was launched on Monday, 31st January, 2005 by renowned naturalist and film-maker Éamon de Buitléar.

The report Galway City Habitat Inventory highlights that the City is host to 58 different habitat types. Of these habitats, 22 are considered to be nationally or internationally rare and are of high ecological or biodiversity value, with a number listed in the EU Habitats Directive, because they are under threat in Europe.

This new map and inventory will be significant in managing and conserving these rare and important habitats, increasing awareness throughout the city and ensuring their survival within our expanding city.
