Westside Community Gardens
On Saturday December 10th, 2005 the Mayor of Galway Cllr Brian Walsh officiated at the opening of a new Community Garden, located to the front of the Westside Recreation Centre.
Themed on the season of winter, the development of this garden for the benefit of the Westside Community has its roots in the work of the Natural Environment and Waterways Group, which is a sub-group of Galway City Development Board.
This Group is working to ‘seek commitment from the private business sector and the public sector to undertake tree/shrub planting in the business retail parks and grounds of public buildings.’
In effect, the opening of this Community garden signals its first project in relation to this objective, which is aimed at encouraging the greening of the City involving strong support from business and public sector bodies.
The garden which includes seating is now open to the public.
