Health and Safety
The City Council has two separate Roles in the implementation of Health and Safety:
As an Employer
Galway City Council promotes the Safety, Health and Welfare of all its employees and actively seeks to ensure that it complies with all Safety Legislation and other statutory requirements. It employees a Safety Advisor to facilitate the implementation of safety among all staff operations and procedures.
To achieve this a Safety Management Programme has been put in place to ensure adequate training for all employees both temporary and permanent. Consultation and co-operation with all employees both indoor and outdoor is achieved through each directorate Safety Consultation Committee.
This committee is made up of sectional safety representatives elected from the staff and management employees in charge of day-to-day operations. The Safety Monitoring Group comprising of senior management staff provide finance and resources to ensure full compliance with statute obligations. There is a Parent Safety statement and each section of the council has an Ancillary safety Statement which is revised annually by the operational, revision and monitoring.
Building Control
The City Council is involved with the enforcement and inspection of all Agricultural, Commercial and Residential developments whose planning permission was obtained from Galway City Council.
The inspections are carried out by the Building Control Officer and they focus on administrative and technical complaince of the building regulations and statutes.
