Casual Trading
Street Markets are part of the historic fabric of Galway City and add to its distinctive traditional flavour.
The city has two designated market areas:
- Eyre Square – this has 16 bays and operates Mondays - Saturday inclusive.
- Church Yard Street (St. Nicholas Cathedral). – this has 88 bays and operates on Saturday and Sunday.
Trading on Saturday is from 6.00am to 6.00pm
Trading on Sunday is from 1.00pm to 6.00pm
There are extra days of trading at Christmas.
Sunday licence holders may trade 14th to 22nd December inclusive (as well as trading as a Sunday trader)
Saturday Traders may Trade on the 23rd and 24th of December as well as a Saturday Trade.
Casual trading licenses are issued annually from the 6th of June to the 5th of June the following year. Applications for licences are accepted on a yearly basis by advertisement in local newspapers and our website. There is currently a waiting list for vacancies at the market.
The closing date for 2010 applications is 4.00pm on Friday 16th April. Application forms can be downloaded here.
