DO NOT LITTER AND DO NOT TOLERATE THOSE THAT DO

Litter pollution is the most visible form of pollution and its presence immediately creates a negative impression. The reduction of litter pollution is a priority for Galway City Council.

The principal objectives for the prevention and control of litter are:

• To increase public awareness of the need to tackle litter.
• To secure the active participation of business, community and residents groups and schools in anti-litter initiatives.
• To secure effective compliance with the provisions of the Litter Pollution Act, 1997 and other relevant legislation.
• To provide effective systems for street-cleaning and litter bin management.
