Old / Abandoned Vehicles
Please note that Galway City Council can only take vehicles from public property and will not be able to enter private property, except in exceptional circumstances.
You may report an abandoned vehicle to Galway City Council and we will aim to have vehicles removed within 48 hours, where possible.
If a burnt out car is causing a road obstruction or is potentially dangerous outside normal working hours, please contact the Gardai.
Report Burnt Out / Vehicle with NO registration plates:
Please note the location of the vehicle and then contact the Environment Section at 091-536400 or email environment@galwaycity.ie. The community warden will arrange for vehicles to be towed away.
Report Abandoned Vehicle WITH registration plates:
Please note the location and registration number of the vehicle. Then contact the Traffic Wardens Section at telephone number 091-536810 or email roads@galwaycity.ie.
Galway City Council will arrange to have the vehicle removed to the pound in the Liosbaun Industrial Estate.
The registered owner is identified and sent a letter advising that the vehicle will be scrapped in 14 days.
A notice will be placed in the local paper 7 days before scrappage. In the case of foreign registered cars, the notice is only placed in the paper and no letter is sent.
