Vacant House Scheme
The Vacant House Scheme allows domestic householders to claim for a remission of refuse charges on a vacant house.
To apply for remission of refuse charges you should complete in full the Vacant House Application Form

Applicants should note:
- Documentary Evidence must be submitted in respect of the period of vacancy. An example of this is an Electricity Consumption Reading (this is NOT an ESB bill). This can be obtained by contacting the ESB Low Call: 1850 372 372
- Your signature must be witnessed by one of the following:
- Commissioner for Oaths
- Peace Commissioner
- Member of Clergy
- Member of the Gardai
The completed application form and relevant attached documents should be returned to:
Refuse Section,
Galway City Council,
City Hall,
College Road,
Galway.
When the fully completed application form has been received it will be possible to assess the situation and the City Council will consider writing off the charge for the period concerned.
