National Natural Heritage Conservation Areas (Pending Designation)
The following areas are currently being considered for designation as future National Heritage Areas:
Moycullen Bog:
Blanket bog located East of Tonabrocky
Cave:
Limestone cave located in Merlin Park, near railway the bridge.
Terryland Glenanail:
Small river, located in Terryland, flowing from the south-eastern corner of
Lough Corrib after a twisting course of a few miles sinks into openings in a limestone crag guarded by two gratings.
Cooley’s Cave
Bedding cave chamber which enlarges towards the end, located in Terryland, northeast of the river sink, entrance
2.4m (8ft) wide by 1.2 m (4ft) high and slopes down for about 9 m (30 ft)
Mushroom Stones
Three large rocks in Menlough shaped by post-glacial fluvial processes.
Quarry
Site of Merlin Park Marble Quarry.
Sea Cliffs
Silverstrand and Cliff area on seapoint.
