The Homeless Forum
The Homeless Forum has been in operation in Galway City since 1997.
Membership of the Homeless Forum include representatives from:
- Brothers of Charity
- Cope, (Crisis Housing, Caring Support) Ltd.
- Cuan Mhuire
- Galway City Council
- Galway Simon Community
- Galway Youth Diocesan Services
- Multiple Sclerosis of Society Ireland
- Respond
- Gardai
- Society of St. Vincent De Paul
- Threshold
- HSE (Western Region)
The Forum meets every quarter to discuss new projects and issues surrounding homelessness.
Homeless Action Plan

In 2004, the Department of the Environment appointed consultants to evaluate the Homeless Action Plans of a
number of Local Authorities, Galway City Council being one of them.
This has been completed and is currently been examined in the context of the next action plan.
Funding
The City Council provides funding to Cope for the provision of Emergency Services at:
- Fairgreen Hostel – Hostel for homeless men
- Osterley Lodge – Hostel for homeless women
- Waterside House – Women and children who are victims of domestic violence
- Westside House – Homeless women and children
- Out of Hours Services – Free Phone 180078887
The City Council also fund the Galway Simon Communities for the provision of move-on-supported accommodation at various locations around the city.
The City Council further fund other organizations such as Saint Vincent De Paul and Cuan Mhuire who also provide homeless services.
