Tenant Purchase Scheme

If you are a Tenant of a house from Galway City Council for at least one year you may apply to the City Council to purchase it outright.

The price of the house will be its market value, as determined by the City Council, in its existing state of repair and condition, less discounts.

The structural condition of the house is taken into account and any increase in the market value due to improvements made to the house by the tenant will be disregarded in calculating the price.

The discount is 3% of the value of the house for each year of tenancy, up to a maximum of 10 years, plus €3,809.

Applicants should note that you do not have to be living in your present accommodation for twelve months before you can apply to purchase; you only need to have been a Galway City Council or other Local Authority tenant for a combined minimum period of twelve months.
 

Please note that the decision on whether or not to sell a particular property rests with Galway City Council
