Eyre Square Enhancement Project
Kennedy Park together with its surroundings Eyre Square is currently undergoing redevelopment works. The works commenced in 2004 and is scheduled for completion in April 2006.
The design for the enhancement scheme is based on best modern European practice providing a balanced solution to City Centre recreational requirements and a wide diversity of activities for a range of interests, both to its citizens and visitors alike.
The new design enhances Eyre Square and Kennedy Park as the primary civic space in Galway and creates a setting for sculpture pieces and a place for performance and civic events.
The reordering of the vehicular circulation system that currently isolates the Square from its surroundings will allow for the attachment of the Square to the pedestrian spine of the City creating an activity hub at the eastern end of the City Centre.
