Disabled Persons Parking Permit
A person who suffers from a disability may be eligible for a Disabled Persons Parking Permit.
These permits are not issued by Galway City Council, but are issued by both the Disabled Drivers Association of Ireland and by The Irish Wheelchair Association.
How to apply for the Disabled Persons Parking Permit
The initial application must be made in writing by or on behalf of the disabled person. For further information about the application process, please refer to the following web links:

Using your Disabled Parking Permit
The permit, once issued to the disabled person is valid for a period of two years. A renewal application must be submitted every two years; otherwise the permit will not be valid for use. The permit may be used in any vehicle that the permit holder is travelling in.
The permit should be displayed so that the expiry date is clearly visible from the windscreen of the vehicle. It is an offence to lend or to allow anyone other than the permit holder to use the permit.
Where you can park using a Disabled Persons Permit in Galway City
A vehicle displaying a valid Disabled Persons Permit, can park for free in any of the designated disabled car park spaces or in a Pay & Display space throughout the City. This applies to both on street parking and in any of Galway City Council car parks.
