Guide to the Application Process to place a Mobile Crane/ Hoist/Cherrypicker on a Public Road or Footpath
English | GaeilgeA permit is required for the placement of a Mobile Crane/Hoist/Cherrypicker on a public road or footpath maintained by Galway City Council. The application should be made to Galway City Council to allow for proper assessment of the application as follows:-
- Mobile Crane – Minimum of 5 weeks.
- Cherrypicker/Hoist – Minimum of 3 days.
Galway City Council cannot guarantee permits for any application that fails to adhere to this requirement.
In order to apply for a permit, you must complete an application form, which can be obtained from:
- Transportation, Infrastructure, Recreation & Amenity,
Grammar School Annex,
College Road,
Galway.

The completed application form should then be returned to the Transportation, Infrastructure, Recreation & Amenity Section, at the above address, by post, fax, or in person to the public counter (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday).
Please ensure that the application form is accompanied with all the necessary documentation and the appropriate fee.
The following fees will apply to place a Mobile Crane/Hoist, Cherrypicker on public roads and footpaths maintained by Galway City Council with effect from the 1st May, 2011 -
Application fee (non-refundable):
€100.00
Suspension of One Paid Parking Space if applicable – (non-refundable)
(during operating hours – not applicable outside operating hours):
€20 per day or part of day [if in hours].
Refundable Deposit (to repair damage to pavement surfaces):
Crane: €1,000
Hoist/Cherrypicker: €500
Additional charges may be applied upon consideration of the application.
Payment Methods
Payment of the fee may be made by cash, cheque or credit card.
