Waste, rubbish, trash, garbage……
Whatever you want to call it, most people don’t think about the waste they produce. Or the amount of waste they produce.
But did you know that your waste could be having a big effect on the environment.
Did you know…
- food waste placed in the grey bin contributes to global warming?
- recycling 6 cans will save enough energy to power a television for 18 hours?
- each tonne of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 7000 gallons of water and enough energy to power a computer for one year?
So what can you do to help the environment?
1. Reduce the amount of waste you produce
The most effective way to deal with waste is through a waste prevention approach, focusing on changes in lifestyles and in production and consumption patterns. By not generating waste, we can eliminate the need to handle, transport, treat and dispose of waste. We can also avoid having to pay for these services.
