Composting

Composting is nature’s way of recycling. It is a biological process in which organisms convert organic matter, such as food and garden waste, into carbon dioxide and water, leaving a reduced, stabilised residue known as compost.

Householders in Galway City can easily compost their waste by placing it in their brown wheelie bin. Brown bin contents are transported to Galway City Council’s composting facility in Carrowbrowne where it is broken down into compost over a period of 10-12 weeks.

Alternatively, households can choose to home compost their organic waste.
