Carrowbrowne Landfill
Galway City Council manages and operates a large composting facility in Carrowbrowne. It is licensed to accept 9,500 tonnes of organic waste annually and its operation is in strict compliance with the licence’s regulations. Brown bin waste from over 20,000 households in Galway City is transported to the site, from Galway City Council refuse collection service and also from a number of private waste collectors.
Once brown bin waste is accepted at the site, its quality is checked. It is then placed in the compost heap, turned etc etc for about 12 weeks. Then used to cover the old landfill site also at Carrowbrowne.
