End-of-Life Vehicles Regulations
A European Directive, known as the ‘ELV Directive’ sets out specific measures to be put in place by Member States in relation to the collection, storage, treatment, dismantling, reuse, recycling and disposal of end-of-life vehicles.
Where can I bring an old car for dismantling?
Householders in the Galway City Council region can bring end of life vehicles to the following facility for recycling:
Galway Vehicle Recycling Centre Ltd.,
Galway Harbour Enterprise Park,
New Docks,
Galway.
All enquiries should be made to 091 755616.
It is advisable to contact the above number to make an appointment as the facility is not always open. The office is located at Liosbaun Industrial Estate.
There is no fee for the disposal of an end of life vehicle, provided you can bring the vehicle to the centre yourself. If you wish your vehicle to be collected, there may be a cost involved.
You should bring all documentation in relation to the vehicle. You are entitled to receive a Certificate of Destruction when the vehicle had been de-polluted.
Who Should Register as a Producer
All car sales importers who's vehicles are likely to become an End-of-Life Vehicle in Galway City Council's Local Authority Area should register with Galway City Council.
Typically, an End-of-Life Vehicle, (in relation to the End of Life Vehicle Regulations), will be a passenger car or a light commercial van that the registered owner wishes to dispose of as waste.
