Waste Management Plan
The Connaught Waste Management Region is made up of six local authorities, Galway City Council, Galway County Council, Mayo County Council, Leitrim County Council, Roscommon County Council and Sligo County Council.
In 2002, these six local authorities adopted the Connaught Regional Waste Management Plan 1999-2004 (CRWMP). The plan proposed an integrated approach to waste management based on the following:
- Reducing dependence on landfill
- Reducing waste growth
- Greatly increasing recycling
- Introducing waste to energy with energy recovery
This approach is based on the E.U. and National Waste Hierarchy with gives priority to reuse and recycling.
