Solvents and Decorative Paints Legislation
Legislation is in place where by any business using solvent based material must comply with certain standards.
The two pieces of legislation in question are:
Statutory Instrument no. 199 of 2007
- Limitation of emissions of volatile organic compounds due to the use of organic compounds in certain paints, varnishes and vehicle refinishing products regulations 2007
Statutory Instrument No. 543 of 2002
- Emissions of volatile organic compounds from organic solvents regulations
It is the responsibility of Galway city council, as the competent authority, to enforce these regulations in the Galway city area.
There are 20 different types of business affected, however the main businesses affected are Dry Cleaners and Vehicle Refinishers. All dry cleaners and vehicle refinishers must comply with the requirements as set out in the legislation.
