Bin charges
Galway City Council introduced a pay-by-weight waste collection and disposal service to its customers in January 2007. Refuse bins are weighed on collection and customers are charged per kilogram of waste in their bins.
Each customer pays:
a fixed charge of €159 (for set of three bins)
and
a variable charge (dependant on the type and amount of waste)
Brown bin: 5c per kilogram
Green bin: 8c per kilogram
Grey bin: 19c per kilogram
Customers are invoiced three times a year – in January, in May and in September.
On each invoice, there is a fixed charge of €53, as well as the variable charge for the previous four month’s waste.
