Connecting to the Sewer Network
Before you can connect to the City Council sewer system you must have the relevant planning permission if it is a new house or development.
You should note that Unauthorised Work will be deemed to be Unauthorised Development, will not comply with your Planning Permission and may result in prosecution

Step One - Meeting with Drainage Engineer
You should arrange to meet with a Drainage Engineer from the City Council.
To do this you should contact Terryland Waterworks at 091 536402
Please bring along all relevant drawings, planning permission and conditions to this meeting.
The Drainage Engineer will agree routes of pipelines, location of manholes, etc and will advise you on how to apply and what to include in your application.
Step Two - Pipe Laying
Following agreement with the Drainage Engineer you may proceed with laying the pipelines, subject to you having a Road Opening Licence (if required).
If requested by the Drainage Engineer you should:
- Arrange for testing of pipelines
- Submit a CCTV video of your pipelines
- Arrange for a Professionally Indemnified person to certify all testing.
Note that you must pay for all required testing and certification.
You are not permitted to connect to the sewer network until a Permit to Connect has been issued.
Step Three - Submit Application Form to Connect

You should now complete your application form and submit to the Drainage Engineer for approval to connect.
If satisfied, the Drainage Engineer will issue a Connection Permit.
You must follow all directions on this permit.
It is obligatory that the Drainage Foreman is present to inspect at the time of connection. It is your responsibility to contact him in advance and arrange a convenient time for inspection.
Please note that only in exceptional circumstances will Sewer Connections be permitted on Fridays or during weekends.
You must include the following documents with your application:
- Copy of Planning Permission, including all conditions.
- Site Map (Scale 1:1000) showing storm water and foul sewers to be served in the development works.
- Description of Sewer Connection with drawing (Scale 1:100) detailing proposed work
- Additional Drawings:- (as directed by Galway City Council Drainage Engineer)
- Copy of receipt of fee of €300.00 per connection
- Signed Certificate of Compliance with copy of Professional Indemnity Insurance included
