A Boil Water Notice in respect of e-coli contamination is lifted when the following measures have been complied with:
1. Identification of the problem
2. Remedial action and increased testing
3. Three consecutive clear tests
Galway City Council has undertaken measures in order to comply with the lifting of the precautionary Boil Water Notice as follows:
- Galway City Council is satisfied as a result of investigations that this contamination has occurred arising from infrastructural works being carried out on the Clybaun road.
- An intensified sampling regime has been undertaken.
- Flushing of the system in the affected area has been carried out.
- Additional chlorination has been undertaken in the affected area.
- Three clear consecutive test results have been received.
The e-coli was detected as a result of Galway City Council’s comprehensive sampling and monitoring regime carried out throughout the water distribution network.
Remedial measures were taken immediately as outlined above. The position has been reviewed and sampling of the water distribution network will continue. These infrastructural works will continue to be closely monitored in order to ensure a high quality water supply.
HSE West’s Environmental Health Department issued an initial advisory letter to all food premises in the affected area, and is now advising these premises that the precautionary boil notice has been lifted. HSE West Public Health Department has continuously liaised with Galway City Council throughout the period of the precautionary boil water notice.
The HSE West and Galway City Council would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation.
