Speech Enable our Website

Browsealoud is a solution to speech enable website content. The software is free for you to download as Galway City Council pay an annual charge to speech enable our web site.

Browsealoud enables our web site to assist in the navigation of our site for the following sections of the population:

How Does it Work

Browsealoud reads aloud whatever text on the page you point to with your mouse. The text is read in sentences rather than word by word so it sounds natural and easy to follow. Of course you must have either speakers or headphones attached to your PC in order to hear it!

How do I Get It

All you have to do is click on the link below and follow the instructions for downloading the programme to your PC. When you are asked if you want to open the programme or save it, it's easier to choose 'open' if you're not too familiar with downloading.

Download Browsealoud here

Once Browsealoud is downloaded to your PC, you will be able to use it to read our website. You will notice that your cursor arrow will turn bright yellow and the text that is being read will be highlighted. You will also see a Browsealoud icon at the bottom right of your page.

You can choose your own settings in Browesaloud. You may prefer a mans voice to a womans for example, or American English to British English. You can change them at any time by clicking on the icon at the bottom of your page. Whatever settings you choose, we hope that Browsealoud will reduce any difficulty you may have with reading our website and catalogue.
