02 October 2009Galway City is in the process of developing Phase 2 of the City Anti Racism Strategy – Towards a City of Equals – This new strategy is being supported by Galway City Development Board.
A working Group has been established to co-ordinate this project. Members of the Working Group include: Galway City Council, Galway City Partnership, Galway City Community Forum, Galway City Intercultural Forum, Galway Traveller Movement and Galway Refugee Support Group.
Liam Hanrahan, Galway City Council & Chair of the Working Group established to co-ordinate the project explains
"With this strategy we hope to build upon what was achieved in the Anti-Racism Strategy, issues of racism, interculturalism and integration must be addressed and challenged in order for meaningful integration to happen; in this regard it is a natural progression for Galway City to now embark on the next phase of this important process of ensuring that Galway is a 'City of Equals'".
Phase 2 of the City's Anti Racism Strategy aims to build structures of communication and dialogue to support relationships amongst communities, institutions and organizations in the city. It will be based on an understanding of mutual respect and common basic values of all in the City of Galway.
The Strategy is still a work in progress and as part of the process, the Working Group are undertaking a Consultation Phase. The outcome of this consultation process will inform the key Actions to be included in Phase 2 of Towards a City of Equals.
The Working Group will be asking for your contribution to the new Anti Racism Strategy for the City – Your City / Your Strategy over the coming weeks. Please keep a lookout for more information regarding this consultation phase in coming weeks.
