What is Galway Arts Office?
In common with other Irish Local Authorities, Galway City Council takes responsibility for support and development of contemporary creativity in is operational area. Since 2001 Galway City Arts Office has been a vibrant and essential part of Galway City Council.
Established to advise the Council on all aspects of contemporary arts practice, the Arts Service runs its own programme of residencies, events, interventions and strategic partnerships.

Which artistic practices and art forms does the Arts Office cover?
We engage with contemporary creativity in the art forms of architecture, circus, dance, film, literature, music, opera, street art and spectacle, theatre, traditional arts and visual culture. We work in practices that cross the art forms; the practices include venues, young people, children, education, arts and health, arts and disability, socially engaged art and artist's supports.
We do not engage with heritage or conservation unless there is a contemporary, living aspect to the project. For heritage and conservation projects and funding please see the Heritage Office in Galway City Council and / or Galway City Museum.

How does the Arts Office support creative practitioners?
- We offer individual artist bursaries and residencies in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, Co. Monaghan.
- Individual artist bursaries are offered on a competitive basis to artists in all contemporary art forms. Application criteria and timelines are announced on this website and in the media. Application forms are available on this website in the Application Forms section. The artist bursaries are for individual professional artists domiciled in Galway city. The bursaries consist of financial awards given to support the artist's practice.
- Tyrone Guthrie Awards are residencies in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, Co. Monaghan. They are awarded to assist professional artists in the development of their practice. Application forms are available on this website in the Application Forms section.

How does the Arts Office support arts organisations and groups?
- We offer annual arts grants to professional and voluntary arts organisations operating in Galway city. The principal and primary raison d'être of the organisation or group must be contemporary art practice.
