Nominations for the Mayor’s Awards 2024 are now OPEN.

On this, the twenty first year of the Awards, I am looking forward to acknowledging and celebrating true community spirit as per the long-established Irish Meitheal that brings communities together.”

What are the Mayors Awards?
The Mayor’s Awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge people who commit time and effort to make their community a better place. We all know people who despite their incredibly busy lives and schedules still find time to support neighbours, local groups, and their community in a very significant way. If there is an individual or group that deserves to be recognised for their efforts, please nominate them.
Galway City Council would like all volunteers to know their contribution is very much appreciated and that volunteering is celebrated for its inherent value to our society, helping to develop vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities.

Who can be nominated for a Mayors Awards?
Galway City Council invites nominations for individuals or groups who are involved in voluntary activity taking place in the city in one of the following categories:
- Arts, Culture, Heritage & Cúrsaí Gaeilge Award
- Residents and Local Areas Award
- Community Service & Social Inclusion Award (Individual Award & Group Award)
- Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year Award
- Environmental Sustainability Award
- Sports Volunteer of the Year Award
- Children and Youth Support Award
- Young Volunteer of the Year
How do I nominate someone?
If you would like to nominate an individual or group for any of these award categories, you can complete an Online Nomination Form. Nomination forms are also available from City Hall and the City Libraries.
The closing date for online nominations is 4pm on Friday, 1st of March 2024.

When do they take place?
The Awards ceremony which will take place on Wednesday evening, 1st May 2024 in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, Galway, and as always promises to be a great evening for all.

What do winners receive?
Winners will receive a commemorative gift and a bursary of €500 to use towards their volunteering. All nominees will be presented with an individually designed Mayoral Certificate at the Awards Ceremony which will be held on Wednesday 1st May 2024 in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, Galway.
