Welcome to the Galway Fairtrade City Project...

...an initiative to make Galway a Fairtrade City. We are a group of organisations and individuals from all walks of life and ages, supported by the City Council, motivated to raise awareness about Fairtrade and ensure that FAIRTRADE products are readily available throughout the City. We need support from individuals, cafes, restaurants and retailers throughout the City to achieve this aim - if you would like to support the campaign or help to make Galway a FAIRTRADE City please contact us.

What is FAIRTRADE?
FAIRTRADE is a long term initiative for continuous improvement of the lives of producers and workers who are guaranteed a minimum price, which covers basic food, housing, health and education needs.

Galway City Council Supports Fairtrade:
On 22 Sept. 2003 Galway City Council passed a formal motion adopting a Fairtrade Policy:
§ Purchasing Fairtrade tea and coffee for use in City Hall.
§ Encouraging caterers to use Fairtrade products for events in City Hall.
§ Encouraging other organisations in the City to use Fairtrade products
§ Promoting the sale of Fairtrade products in retail outlets throughout the City.
