Community Litter Clean ups


What is it?

Throughout the year community and business groups, residents’ associations, colleges, and schools help with keeping our beautiful City tidy by engaging in community clean ups. Galway City Council welcome this civic engagement and thank the volunteers for giving back to their community.

Galway City Council provide groups with a limited number of bags, gloves and litter pickers per group and facilitate the removal of the bags on a Wednesday of each week.

How do I apply?

To arrange a community clean up in your area, please contact Galway City Council, Customer Service Department on 091-536400.

What can be collected?

General Litter – only bags provided by Galway City Council specifically for the community clean up to be used.

What cannot be collected?

-Please note vegetation such as grass cuttings will not be accepted.

-Bulky Goods i.e., mattresses, beds, chairs, unless Galway City Council are informed of same in advance and items were collected as a direct result of community clean up. Galway City residents can avail of bulky goods collection service operated by Galway City Council. Collection can be arranged by contacting Customer Service at 091 536400 or customerservice@galwaycity.ie

-The Bulky Goods price list is available at: http://www.galwaycity.ie/bulky-goods-collection-2 

-Household Rubbish i.e., food, electrical equipment, furniture, Construction & Demolition waste.

What are the Collection Days?

Galway City Councils litter management team collect General Litter on Wednesdays only.

Where can you leave it for collection?

-Under no circumstances can clean-up bags be placed beside public bins.

-Please make sure that the bags will contain litter waste only, as any green waste in the clean-up bags cannot be collected.

 

National Spring Clean-what is it?

Groups may also wish to register for the National Spring Clean Campaign which is run by An Taisce each April. www.nationalspringclean.org
