General Election 2016

Are you Registered to Vote in the General Election on Friday, 26th February, 2016?

You can check if you are registered to vote in the upcoming General Election by checking your details at www.checktheregister.ie

To be eligible to vote at a General Election, you must be registered as an Irish Citizen or a British Citizen and have either of the following electoral status beside your name on the Register:

"Presidential" if you are registered as an Irish Citizen

"Dail" if you are registered as a British Citizen

If you have recently become an Irish Citizen you must update your status on the Electoral Register so that you can vote in a General Election. See below for further details.

 

 

What if you are not registered to vote?

Eligible voters who are not on the Register and who wish to vote in the upcoming General Election may apply to get on a Supplement.

To ensure that your details are on the Supplement, please complete the RFA2 Form at the link below and return the completed form to Galway City Council offices no later than 4pm Tuesday, 9th February 2016.

If you have moved address:

If you are already on the register and have recently moved address, you may apply to get on the Supplement at your new address.

To ensure that your details are on the Supplement, please complete the RFA3 Form at the link below and return the completed form to Galway City Council offices no later than 4pm Tuesday, 9th February 2016.

If you have recently become an Irish Citizen:

If you are not on Register or are already on the Register as a local or European Elector and have become an Irish Citizen, you must still apply to get on the Supplement to be eligible to vote at the General Election i.e. to update your status to an Irish Citizen.

To ensure that your Irish Citizen status is updated on the Register and to ensure that you can vote at the General Election you must complete the RFA5 Form at the link below and return the completed form to Galway City Council offices no later than 4pm Tuesday, 9th February 2016.

Completed forms for inclusion on the supplement must be received by Galway City Council no later than 4pm Tuesday, 9th February 2016.

 

 

Supplement to the Postal Voters and Special Voters Lists

If you are eligible to vote by post or are unable to vote in person due to a physical illness or physical disability and resident in a hospital, nursing home or similar institution and you are not on the Postal Voters List or Special Voters List, you can apply for inclusion in the Supplement to these lists using the form in the link below (PVS1 Form). Completed forms must be received by Galway City Council no later than 4pm Friday, 5th February 2016.

Special Day of Registration:

In order to assist persons wishing to make an application for inclusion in the Supplementary Register, Galway City Council will hold aSpecial Day of Registration for people residing in the city on Tuesday, 9th February 2016 from 9.30am to 4.00pm. Staff of Galway City Council and a member of An Garda Síochána will be available in the foyer of Galway City Council, City Hall, College Road, Galway to facilitate persons wishing to apply for inclusion on the Supplement so that they can vote in the upcoming election. Photographic Identification will be required and should be brought with you on the day.
