Galway City Council's Social Inclusion Week 2014 12th -18th October
Galway City Council's Social Inclusion Week 2014 is a collective response to address Poverty and Social Exclusion in Galway City, highlighting the good work taking place in Galway by groups and organisations in tackling issues within their local community.
Social Inclusion Week 2014 for Galway City, which this year has a Disability and Sport Focus, will be launched by Mayor of Galway City Councillor Donal Lyons at Kingfisher, NUIG on Sunday 12th October at 12:00 noon. All are Welcome!
On the launch day Galway Sports Partnership in conjunction with the Galway Centre for Independent Living will kick off Social Inclusion Week by hosting an Ability Sports Day in celebration of 20 years of the Galway Centre for Independent Living.
Linking with clubs from all over Galway and further a field Galway Sports Partnership & Galway Centre for Independent Living have organised a wide variety of sports that are available for people with disabilities in Galway. Attendees will have the opportunity to try a wide range of activities. A number of Ireland's elite Paralympians will also be on hand to demonstrate their skills and give coaching advice to all. Along with a host of sports people YOU are invited to come along and experience some of the many sports on display.

Social Inclusion Week is a celebration of participation, equality and inclusion. This year we are aiming to ensure that even more people join in and get involved in the events and activities. The week will be used to highlight social inclusion initiatives that are taking place locally and highlight social exclusion issues both locally and nationally.
An events guide relating to Social Inclusion Week is available as a download from www.galwaycity.ie and printed copies are available from City Hall or Libraries around the city.
Ability Sports Day

"Say it with Graffiti" shOUT! Will encourage Post Primary Schools & Youth Groups, Projects & Clubs in Galway City to organise a "Chalk Graffiti Statement of Inclusion"

Encouraging young people to send out a positive message to other young people who identify as LGBT, by drawing the LGBT Rainbow and/or flag (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Violet) on the playground or a wall somewhere on the school/club premises, writing the name of the school/Youth Group alongside, taking a photo and sending it back.
Coffee Morning & Information on Galway Age Friendly Programme

"Living Well With Arthritis" - Galway Branch of Arthritis Ireland

The first week of a 6 week Programme called "Living Well With Arthritis" which supports people in self-management of their condition. Pre-registration is required with a small fee (reduced for medical card holders).
