Minister Kelly announces recipients of grants under the 2014 Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund

Oct 21, 2014

Mr Alan Kelly T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, today (21/10/2014), announced the recipients of grant funding under the 2014 Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund. This grant scheme promotes sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects at a local level.

The projects are being co-funded by the Department and local authorities; with close to €400,000 being provided by the Department and a similar amount by the local authorities. In total €796,000 is being provided under this year's scheme to 697 projects throughout the country. In addition to the funding provided by the Department and the local authorities, the successful applicants have also raised additional funds locally, bringing the total shared partnership investment to over €1.4 million.
Announcing the recipients of this year's fund the Minister stated: "This scheme is an important contributor to local small scale environmental projects. I'm delighted that my Department, in conjunction with the local authorities, can help to make these projects happen and can assist the good work that is being done in communities right across the country. Almost 700 environmental projects are being funded through this year's scheme, and this will help communities to make a real difference to their local environment."

Projects are selected for funding by local authorities, following an open call for applications. Funding goes to a wide range of local initiatives; including awareness and education projects, community gardens, waste reduction projects and biodiversity projects.
A full list of this year's successful projects nationally is now available on the Department's website www.environ.ie
