St. Patrick’s Parade Plans Afoot! Your Parade! Your Ideas!

Jan 26, 2015

Jen Hesnan (Parade Director) and Mauricio Figueroa (Arts Director).

With less than two months to go, plans for this year's Galway St Patrick's Day are well underway.

The theme of this year's parade will draw on the city's bid to be named European Capital of Culture 2020 as inspiration and will celebrate Galway's exciting cultural and creative Community.

Jen Hesnan has been appointed Parade Director and will be assisted by Mauricio Figueroa as Arts Director. Jen and Mauricio are in the process of making contact with the full range of community, voluntary and professional groups who may contribute to this year's parade.

Groups from across the city are invited to get involved by contacting Jen or Mauricio on 0871998713 or e-mail

One example of the creative twist on this year's parade is to celebrate the city's status as UNESCO City of Film. Galway animator Fergal Brennan is creating a unique illustrated animation based on the parade's narrative: St. Patrick and the Time Travelling Projector. Images of this animation will be released intermittently so members of the public are encouraged to keep an eye on local papers, Facebook and the parade website in coming weeks.

Galway's St. Patrick's Day Parade is supported and funded by Galway City Council
