MATERIAL CONTRAVENTION OF DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR
GALWAY CITY COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2011 - 2017

Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 34(6) of the Planning and Development Acts 2000, as amended, that GALWAY CITY COUNCIL intends to consider deciding to grant a permission for development which will consist of the construction of a new 2 storey Primary School building with a section of the building rising to 3 storey and comprising of 24 no. general classrooms, general purpose hall with servery area, staff room, library and resource room, special educate tuition rooms, offices, staff areas, sanitary and ancillary accommodation with a total floor area of c. 3982m.sq.
Proposed site works to include provision for 36 no. surface car parking spaces including accessible parking via new internal vehicular and pedestrian access from business park road, new internal access road to include bus turning circle, drop-off and pick-up facilities. A new pedestrian access route to the south of the site.
External works to include bicycle parking, formation of 3 no. basketball courts, junior play areas, external bin store, ESB sub-station and associated site engineering works.
The overall site area will be landscaped with grass/planted areas with new boundary treatment to the perimeter of the site for The Minister for Education and Skills.

The development would contravene materially the following objectives of the Development Plan:
The proposal would materially contravene Land use zoning objective 11.2.5 of the Galway City Council Development Plan 2011 - 2017, as it would comprise the inclusion of lands which are Zoned ' I ' (Industrial ) into an overall School Site, where it is the objective of the Planning Authority to "provide for enterprise, industrial and related uses" and a specific development objective relating to this land & the balance of the I zoned lands which states "Lands Zoned I at Rahoon, comprising approximately 29 hectares, the Council will consider the development of these lands for a technology/business park. Development proposals in line with this objective must achieve a parkland setting compatible with residential amenity of existing and future adjoining housing areas".

Any submission or observation as regards the making of a decision to grant permission should be submitted in writing to the Planning Department, College Road, Galway not later than 4 weeks after 4th June, 2015 (that is 1st July, 2015 before 4.00 p.m.) & all will be duly considered by the Planning Authority.
