Closing date for Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2016 fast approaching

Feb 10, 2016

At a recent press event in Galway City Council, the Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr. Frank Fahy unveiled the Sunday Business Post and TG4 as the new national media sponsors of Gradam 2016. Their support will ensure that the Gradam and businesses participating, receive a national platform for their use of the Irish language in business. Additional prizes and benefits will be provided by the main media sponsor of the award;  the Galway Advertiser, as well as  Fáilte Ireland, Galway Bay FM, Snap Galway, Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh, ARÓ, Údarás na Gaeltachta, The Solution Guys and the Galway Chamber. The total value of the prizes and benefits is over €25,000.

Speaking about Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, Bríd Ní Chonghóile of Gaillimh le Gaeilge, encouraged any business or organisation in the city using Irish to participate and said:

“This is a great opportunity for any business or organisation to raise their profile and attract more customers through the creative and effective use of the Irish language at very little cost. We have two months until the judging process commences, so there is plenty of time to integrate Irish into your business or organisation agus ar ndóigh tá Gaillimh le Gaeilge ar fáil  chun cuidiú leat i rith an  phróisis go léir.”

The Gradam will consist of four categories; Retail, Hospitality & Tourism, Services and Other Companies. A winner will be chosen in each category and the overall winner will be selected from the four category winners. The Gradam culminates with a Gala Award Ceremony in May where the Minister for the Gaeltacht will announce the category winners and overall winners. The Gradam is now open to businesses and organisations based in Galway city that are not primarily involved with the promotion of the Irish language and not subject to the Official Languages Act. It is not essential to be a fluent Irish speaker to participate in the Gradam and Gaillimh le Gaeilge will guide you every step of the way. Log onto to enter online or contact 091 568876.

The closing date for entries is Monday the 15th of February 2016.  Ag súil le cloisteáil uaibh!
