Galway City Mayor's Award Winners Announced

Cathy Killeen announced as Galway City Council Volunteer of the Year

Cathy Killeen was last night announced as Galway City Council Volunteer of the Year, at the thirteenth Annual Mayor's Awards for Galway City.

Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr. Frank Fahy presented the top award to Cathy Killeen in recognition of her many years of dedicated service to volunteering in Galway City. Cllr Fahy commented " her long involvement with the Castlegar/Menlo Foróige club is an inspiration to all of us”

Other recipients of Mayor’s Awards for 2015 include Seán Stafford for his association with the Taibhdhearc Theatre and John O’Toole for his dedicated service with Scouting Ireland.

Over 100 individuals and groups received certificates from the Mayor in celebration of voluntary activity in community life in the city. The winners of the individual awards remained a closely guarded secret until the ceremony itself which was held in the Radisson Blu Hotel in front of an audience of over 300 people.  The Awards are organised by Galway City Council.

The recipients in each of the categories were:

 

Arts, Culture, Heritage & Cúrsaí Gaeilge Award

- Seán Stafford, in recognition of his many year’s voluntary contribution with the Taibhdhearc Theatre

Residents’ & Local Areas Award

– Tony McDonagh, for his dedication in looking after the grounds of the Forthill Cemetery

Community Service & Social Inclusion

- Marian Maloney Nolan, for her commitment to ensuring that people with disabilities have an opportunity to live an independent and active life in our community.

Older Volunteer of the Year

– Violet Gavin, for her vision and commitment to the Positive Mental Health Foundation initiative in Secondary Schools in Galway

 

Sports Volunteer of the Year Award

– Samuel Lukombo Sambu, in recognition of his voluntary activity with the Galway Football Association.

Children and Youth Award

– John O’Toole, for his dedication and energy in working with Scouting Ireland in Galway over a period of Fifty years

Young Volunteer of the Year

– Ginalee Healy, in recognition of her voluntary Fundraising activities for a number of Groups within Galway.

 

Each of the winners received a Galway Crystal trophy and a cheque for €500.

 

 

 

 

BUAITEOIRÍ GHRADAM MHÉARA CHATHAIR NA GAILLIMHE 2015 FÓGARTHA

É fógartha ag Comhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe gurb í Cathy Killeen Oibrí Deonach na Bliana

 

Fógraíodh Cathy Killeen aréir mar Oibrí Deonach na Bliana Chomhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe ag Gradaim Bhliantúla Mhéara Chathair na Gaillimhe atá ar siúl don tríú bliain déag.

 

Bhronn Méara Chathair na Gaillimhe, an Comhairleoir Frank Fahy an gradam is airde ar Cathy Killeen mar aitheantas do na blianta fada seirbhíse atá caite aici ag obair go deonach i gCathair na Gaillimhe. Deir an Comhairleoir Fahy gur údar inspreagtha dúinn uile an bhaint atá aici le fada an lá le Club Foróige an Chaisleáin Ghearr/Mhionlaigh.

 

Ar na daoine eile ar bronnadh Gradam an Mhéara do 2015 orthu bhí Seán Stafford don bhaint a bhí aige le hAmharclann na Taibhdheirce agus John O’Toole dá sheirbhís dhíograiseach le Cumann Gasóg na hÉireann.

 

Fuair os cionn 100 duine aonair agus grúpaí gradaim ón Méara mar cheiliúradh ar a gcuid gníomhaíochtaí deonacha i saol poiblí na cathrach. Níor tugadh le fios buaiteoirí na ngradam aonair go dtí an searmanas féin, a reáchtáladh in Óstán an Radisson Blu i gcomhluadar lucht féachana de bhreis agus 300 duine.  Is iad Comhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe a eagraíonn na Gradaim.

- Marian Maloney Nolan, don obair mhór atá déanta aici lena chinntiú go mbíonn gach deis agus is féidir ag daoine faoi mhíchumas chun maireachtáil go neamhspleách agus go gníomhach ina bpobal féin.

Oibrí Deonach Scothaosta na Bliana

– Violet Gavin, dá fís agus dá díograis don Fhondúireacht Meabhairshláinte Dearfach i Scoileanna Dara Leibhéal i nGaillimh

 

Gradam d’Oibrí Deonach Spóirt na Bliana

– Samuel Lukombo Sambu, mar aitheantas don obair dheonach a dhéanann sé le Cumann Peile na Gaillimhe.

Gradam Leanaí agus an Óige

– John O’Toole, dá dhíograis agus dá chuid fuinnimh ag obair le Cumann Gasóg na hÉireann i nGaillimh le os cionn leathchéad bliain

Oibrí Deonach Óg na Bliana

– Ginalee Healy, mar aitheantas do na gníomhaíochtaí Bailithe Airgid a dhéanann sí go deonach le roinnt Grúpaí i nGaillimh.

 

 

Bronnadh trófaí speisialta déanta as Criostail na Gaillimhe chomh maith le seic €500 ar gach buaiteoir.
