South Park Recreation & Amenity Zoned Lands – Framework Plan

Jun 20, 2016
In 2008 Galway City Council's Recreation & Amenity Needs Strategy identified the need for a New Public Park to be located in the South Park area and this aspiration consequently became an adopted policy confirmed in both subsequent Galway City Development Plans and Local Area Plans.

Galway City Council have recently appointed Cunnane Stratton Reynolds - Landscape Architects & Town Planners, to undertake a review and design exercise leading to the development of a 'Framework Plan' that will provide the planning in the delivery of a new Public Parkland recreation facility.

The 'Framework Plan' will further advance the fulfilment of Galway City Council's strategic & specific policy aims to develop a park in this area of the City, through an open and inclusive master-planning process that will seek to deliver a coherent and logical vision for the overall design of a major new Public Parkland facility in Galway's western suburbs.

Subsequent phases will include; Planning Approval Process, Funding Approval, Detail Design, Construction Procurement, Construction, Completion and long term management.

The facility will incorporate a balance of both formal and informal opportunities for active and passive recreation and will seek to engage with and strengthen both physical and social links with the surrounding communities and institutions.

Public consultations are now in progress and you are advised of the following event and opportunity to provide input into the Project:-
