Have you heard of the Tellus survey? It may be relevant to you.

Conducted by the Geological Survey Ireland (GSI), the Tellus survey collects geochemical and geophysical data on rocks, soil and water across Ireland.

GSI will be undertaking an urban soil sampling survey in Galway city and immediate surrounding areas (during April 2017), as part of the Tellus survey. The urban soil sampling follows on from previous phases of the programme, which aims to see 50 % of the country surveyed by the end of 2018. Samplers working in pairs collect soil samples using a hand auger every 1 km2. The work is being carried out on behalf of the GSI by OCAE agricultural consultants.

As it is vital to raise public awareness of the project, particularly amongst farmers and animal owners - the Tellus team is delivering an ongoing communications campaign across the region. If you have any concerns about the survey, or if you are interested in finding out more about the project, you can contact the Tellus Freephone information line on 1800 303 516 or visit www.tellus.ie.
