National Day of Commemoration Ceremony - Galway, Sunday, 13th July 2014
The National Day of Commemoration local ceremony, to honour all those Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations, will
be held in Galway next Sunday, 13th July,2014.
The Ceremony takes place at The Quadrangle, National University Of Ireland Galway at 11.00 am.
This local ceremony will coincide with the annual National Day Of Commemoration Ceremony being held at The Royal Hospital, Kilmainham and is the fourth such ceremony to be held in Galway.
Relatives and next of kin of those who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations as well as a wide cross-section of the community including ex-servicemen's organisations will be in attendance.
A representative body from the Defence Forces will also be on parade and there will be a procession led by the Deputy Mayor and Elected Members of Galway City Council accompanied by the President of NUI, Galway, Dr. James Browne.
The ceremony will commence with a multi-faith service of prayer, after which
the Deputy Mayor of Galway will lay a wreath at the Commemorative plaque.
Representatives of the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of Ireland, the United Presbyterian / Methodist Churches and the Muslim community in Galway will conduct a multi-faith service with music from St. Patrick’s Brass Band and soloist Hildegarde Naughton.
The ceremony is open to the public and members of the public as well as former members of the Irish and other defence forces are welcome to attend.
