Heritage Week in Merlin Woods Aug 24th-Aug 31st

A week of free an exciting events organised by Friends of Merlin Woods will take place in Merlin Woods Galway from Sunday August 24th to Sun Aug 31st.

Nature and Photography lead by Noel Barbour a long-time photographer of wildlife; will be giving tips and advice on how to get the best shots of wildlife. Meeting at the Council compound Doughiska Park Sun August 24th 12-3pm

Mon 25th- Fri 29thAugust Friends of Merlin Woods Nature Photography and History exhibition will run in City Hall College Rd for Heritage Week . The launch of the exhibition will take place on Monday 25th at 1pm in City Hall, all welcome .That night Mon 25th, a Bat walk /Talk will be led by Dr Kate Mc Aney from Vincent Wildlife Trust in the Ard Family Resource Centre on Doughiska Rd at 8.30pm with guest speaker Dr Chris Peppiatt. He has recently been conducting a Heritage Council funded bat survey of Merlin Woods.

Birdwatch Ireland's John Lusby will be in the Ballybane Menshed on Tuesday 26th7pm to give a short talk on bird boxes and owl baskets and a demonstration workshop on the building of them.

Wednesday 27th August will be a heritage walk in the Merlin Woods led by Dr Jim Higgins, Galway City's Heritage Officer discussing the history and heritage of bygone years in the area.

Dr Janice Fuller Ecologist and Heritage Consultant will lead a woodland walk exploring the nature and wildlife on Thurs 28th August at 7pm meeting at the Council compound Doughiska Park'

Saturday 30th August a Nature and Butterfly walk led by Friends of Merlin Woods will take place at 12pm leaving from the Council compound Doughiska Park

Woodland Art a favourite of both adults and children will take place on Sun August 31st 2pm till 4pm, creating art from the materials found in the woodland, meeting place the Council compound Doughiska Park.
