  • I have a query about Traffic Calming Ramps for my area - who should I contact?

Speeding in residential areas can cause road accidents, affect the quality of life of local residents and pedestrians, children and the elderly.

Traffic calming uses physical measures to slow traffic and improve safety for road users. Some of the traffic calming measures implemented by Galway City Council includes:

    • Speed ramps and cushions - to slow down vehicles.
    • Chicanes and roundabouts.
    • Modified junctions, e.g. to prohibit u-turns, etc.
    • Weight restrictions, e.g. to stop Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) using a street.

To request a traffic calming measure for your area, send the details of your request to the roads section of Galway City Council in writing.
    Please include the following information:

    • Your contact name, address and phone number.
    • A map of the area indicating where ramps are suggested,
    • Description of location e.g. Outside house number, In estate name.
    • A photograph of the street or road (if possible)

    Send your request to:

    The Roads Section
Dept of Transportation, Infrastructure, Recreation & Amenity
    Yeats College Annex
    College Road
    Galway
    E-mail: roads@galwaycity.ie

The roads section will assess the request and propose a solution.
