Apply to Erect a Tombstone and Surround
You must apply for a Permit if you want to erect a tombstone and surround within either of the City Council Cemeteries.
You should note that the ‘Applicant’ is the actual sculptor or contractor who has undertaken to carry out the work.
To apply for a Permit you should:
- Download the Application Form to Erect a Tombstone and Surround
- Complete in full including details of the deceased and grave details
- Include a description of the Proposed Tombstone and Surround
- Attach a Photograph or Drawing of the Proposed Tombstone and Surround
- Include fee of:
- New Cemetery, Bohermore, all areas - €44
- Mount Saint James, Rahoon, from €44 to €190 depending on location of the Grave
- Return to:

Galway.
Applicants should note:
- All Tombstones must be made available for inspection by the Caretaker at the Cemetery before installation
- Height restrictions apply at both Cemeteries
- Applicants are responsible for the quality and safety of the entire construction works
