Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS)

RAS logo

The Rental Accommodation Scheme is a new scheme for people who have been receiving long-term rent supplement and who need long-term housing by the City Council.

Landlords

Galway City Council will enter into contractual arrangements with accommodation providers, landlords, property owners, estate and letting agents.

The City Council will assume responsibility for making full monthly payments to landlords for the duration of the contract.  The landlord will not have to collect rent or fill vacancies and the City Council will pay full rent even if the property is vacant.

Tenants

The Scheme will provide additional, good quality accommodation for people receiving rent supplement and it will help Local Authorities to provide long-term housing for people who need it.

RAS gives tenants of private rented accommodation long-term housing security while also giving them access to a range of housing supports.
