Planning Appeals

The planning system includes a comprehensive appeals process. Under this, all planning decisions made by planning authorities may be subject to independent review by An Bord Pleanála  (the Board).

The decision of the Board is final but its validity on a point of law may be challenged by way of judicial review in the High Court. An application for leave to apply for judicial review to the High Court must be made within the period of 8 weeks commencing on the date on which notice of the decision was first published.

Please note that An Bord Pleanála may dismiss vexatious appeals/referrals at their own discretion.

Further information and guides to making an appeal may be obtained from the An Bord Pleanála website.
