Temporary Road Closures

The Roads Section in Galway City Council deals with temporary road closures.

A temporary road closure may be granted for:

The carrying out of road works
The holding of a road race or other events
The demolition of a building

If you wish to close a road you should apply in writing outlining the following details:

Name and address of applicant
Name of road
Date of proposed closure
Proposed Alternative Routes

This should be sent to:

Roads Section,
Galway City Council,
City Hall,
College Road,
Galway

There is no fee for the Temporary Closing of a Road, however, if the application is successful, an administrative fee may be charged to cover the cost of advertising the public notices relating to the road closure.

If the application is successful, the applicant must ensure that the Ambulance, Fire Services and the Gardai are notified of the closure.
