Carrowbrowne Landfill

Carrowbrowne Landfill Site accepted the Waste from the City and a large section of the County for almost 30 years. It was closed for the acceptance of Municipal Waste in 1999.

The Landfill was reopened for the acceptance of inert waste in August 2003. (Waste Licence 13-1) and is presently undergoing final remediation including the planting of native shrubs and trees.

The landfill gas is flared off as there is not enough gas for efficient electricity generation.

A leachate treatment plant is also incorporated within the landfill and the treated leachate is pumped to the City Waste Water Treatment Plant.
