Serviced Land Initiatives

The Serviced land Initiative was introduced nationally in late 1997 as a measure to tackle pressures on housing supply by increasing the availability of serviced residential land. Under the Initiative water and sewerage facilities are provided to service zoned residential lands to allow them to be opened up for housing development.

Merlin Park / Doughiska Area

This is a Serviced Land Initiative (SLI) Project and the cost of the works is in the order of €7,567,022. It will provide sanitary services for 4,658 units in the Merlin Park/Doughiska area. An advanced section of the scheme adjacent to the Student Residential Development has been completed.

The funding is to be on 60% - 40% basis, with the Department contributing 40%.

Works commenced in May 2002 and have been substantially completed. However, some difficulties were encountered on site and as a consequence of this, it has been necessary to prepare new contracts to complete the outstanding works. It is anticipated that works will be completed in early 2007.

Knocknacarra Main Drainage Stage 4

An application under the Serviced Land Initiative has been approved by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government for Ballymoneen Road and Clybaun Road.

The funding is to be on 60% - 40% basis, with the Department contributing 40%.

Consulting Engineers were appointed and a Preliminary Report was completed and has been submitted to the City Council for approval.

An advance scheme for the provision of surface water and foul sewer systems on a section of the Ballymoneen Road has been completed.
