Notice of Review of the Galway City Council Development Plan 2005-2011 and Preparation of a new Galway City Council Development Plan 2011-2017

Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 11 of the Planning and Development Act, 2000 and Article 13B of the Planning and Development (Strategic Environmental Assessment) Regulations 2004, that Galway City Council, being the Local Authority for the City, intends to review the Galway City Council Development Plan 2005-2011 and prepare a new Development Plan for its functional area.

The planning authority will carry out a Strategic Environmental Assessment [SEA] as part of the review process and for this purpose, the planning authority will prepare an environmental report on the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing the new plan. The provisions of Articles 13C to 13J of the 2004 SEA Regulations shall apply. The review of the City Development Plan will be assessed in accordance with Article 6(3) of the Habitats Directive in relation to the management and integrity of Natura 2000 sites.

Submissions or observations regarding the review of the existing Galway City Council  Development Plan 2005-2011 and the preparation of the proposed new Plan are hereby invited from members of the public and other interested parties. Submissions marked Development Plan Review, may be made in writing during the period Friday 27th February 2009 to Wednesday 29th April 2009 (16:00hrs) to the Senior Planner, Planning Department, Galway City Council, City Hall, College Road, Galway.

Submissions or observations may also be made by e-mail during the same period to the following address: devplan@galwaycity.ie .All submissions should state the name of the person making the submission and where relevant the body represented. All submissions lodged within the above period will be taken into consideration prior to the preparation of the new Draft City Plan.

 ‘Background Issues Papers’ which highlights some of the issues to be addressed in the new Plan may be inspected at the following locations:

During the period up to and including Wednesday 29th April 2009 copies of the ‘Background Issues Paper’, the public notice, a guide to making a submission on the new Development Plan and the timetable for making a submission will be available on the Council’s website www.galwaycity.ie

Public information meetings regarding the review of the Development Plan and the making of submissions/observations will be held in a number of locations throughout the City in March 2009. Drop in clinics in City Hall will also be held during March. Further public notices will be published in local newspapers and on the Councils website indicating the dates, times and venues of these meetings and clinics.
