Galway City Council today launched the new Galway City Atlas on behalf of the Galway City Development Board.
The Atlas provides a breakdown of population and infrastructural information in the city. This includes data and analysis of issues such as housing, transport, social inclusion data as well as maps that detail parks, playgrounds and arts venues and uses throughout the city.
Launching the Report the Mayor Declan McDonnell welcomed the Atlas as an important tool and resource for all agencies and for the public in general saying
"I would encourage other agencies and organisations to avail of this Atlas and to discuss it within the City Development Board mechanisms, to use the data to ensure that issues highlighted are addressed and to build upon this data with further profiling and analysis finally. I would like to thank the City Development Board and the Social Inclusion Group continuing to Prioritise this Atlas as an Action, and thank the Social Inclusion Unit of Galway City Council for its development and analysis."
Mr. Joe MacGrath, City Manager highlighted that 'the atlas is a resource that we will use on a continual basis in various sections of City Council, including the development of our application for the Smarter Travel competition, supporting our housing section and implementation of the RAPID programme'.
The Galway City Atlas is available in hard copy from Community and Enterprise, Galway City Council or can be downloaded from www.galwaycity.ie.
