2017 IPB Pride of Place Winners Announced

Galway scoops top prizes in the cities competition. The winners of the IPB Pride of Place Awards in association with Co-operation Ireland were announced last night at a gala awards ceremony in Letterkenny. The awards acknowledge the achievements and the invaluable work undertaken by volunteers and those involved in local community development. Galway City took home two awards in the cities competition.

Opening of Book of Condolence for Mr. Liam Cosgrave, former Taoiseach

The Mayor of the City of Galway, Councillor Pearce Flannery, will open a Book of Condolence at City Hall on Monday 9th October 2017 at 11 a.m. in memory of Mr. Liam Cosgrave, former Taoiseach who died on the 4 th October 2017. Lenaboy Castle to Become Children's Creative Hub

An agreement to transfer ownership of the former St. Anne's Children’s Home at Taylor's Hill, Galway from the Sisters of Mercy to Galway City Council was announced at the monthly meeting of the Council in City Hall, Galway on Monday (11th September.) The members of the council were informed the transfer by the Sisters of Mercy, which also includes a cash payment, will facilitate the creation of a Children’s Creative Hub.

Census 2016 Results: Profile 4 - Households and Families: GALWAY

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) today (27th July 2017) publishes Profile 4 Households and Families, the latest of the eleven Census 2016 profile reports. The report shows that there were 1,218,370 families in the State on Census Night, an increase of 3.3% since 2011. The number of children per family remained unchanged at 1.38 children since the 2011 census.

Galway City Council has commenced an extensive campaign to update the Register of Electors for the year 2017/2018 period. This Register contains the details of all of those who are entitled to vote and will be used for all Local, General, and European elections and Referenda, held between the period 15  th February 2017 and 14 th February 2018.
