NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Galway City Council has made an order closing:-
Fr. Burke Road,
Fairhill Road Upper,
Fairhill Road Lower from Fr. Griffin Road to Fairhill Road Upper,
St. Nicholas Road,
St. Dominick’s Avenue,
St. Dominick’s Road,
St. Ignatius Terrace,
South Park Place,
Period of Closure: Saturday, February 8th, 2020 between the hours of 1500hrs to 2100hrs.
Reason: Cultural Event: Opening Ceremony of Galway as European Capital of Culture.
Alternative Routes: Alternative routes for traffic will be signposted via diversion routes. Local access will be maintained at all times.
Diversion Routes: An alternative route is available via:-
Traffic from Spanish Arch: Traffic will be diverted, straight along Fr. Griffin Road to Dr. Colohan Road.
Traffic from Salthill: Traffic will be diverted, straight along Dr. Colohan Road continuing to Fr. Griffin Road.
Local access will be maintained to the affected roads where possible. Alternative parking in a nearby location will be provided for affected residents.
In the event of bad weather on the 8th February, the Opening Ceremony may be postponed until Sunday, 9th February, 2020. If the conditions have not improved on the Sunday morning, the event may be cancelled.
Please note from 1500 hours to 2100 hours on Saturday, 8th February, the following will be in place to facilitate access to St Nicholas National School Claddagh Polling Station.
Pedestrian access will be maintained from all directions for voters. Vehicular access will be maintained for voters via
1) Fairhill Road Lower, St. Dominick’s Road
2) Fr. Burke Road, School Avenue, St. Dominick’s Road
Short term parking will be available for voters.
